Innospection has secured a seven-figure contract with Essar Oil UK, a leading player in the UK’s oil and chemical industry, for the inspection of their storage tanks.

Essar Oil UK operates the Stanlow Manufacturing Complex, one of the largest refineries in the UK producing 16% of road transport fuels.

The multi-year term contract, which will cover both the Stanlow Manufacturing Complex and the Tranmere Oil Terminal sites, is also the UK’s largest onshore tank inspection contract awarded in 2018.

Innospection’s MECTM trained team of engineers will be servicing this contract from their Ellesmere Port office, using the firm’s range of high performance MECTM floor scanners.

Innospection Group Operations Director, Jason Smith, welcomed the deal with Essar, saying: “We are delighted to announce this ground-breaking new contract with Essar Oil UK, which is also our first term contract for onshore tank work. It is gratifying that our highly skilled and experienced team of inspectors, who have a strong track-record in providing a thorough and reliable inspection service, have been recognised by a multinational corporation such as Essar.

“The combination of our people, with our cutting-edge, market-leading inspection technology, clearly sets us apart, and will enable us to inspect Essar’s storage tanks with a high degree of precision and efficiency.

“The MECTM floor scanner, which is designed and built by our in-house Research, Design & Product Development team, will bring a plethora of benefits to Essar Oil UK.  Due to utilising an electromagnetic technique, it’s only necessary to carry out minor preparation and limited cleaning of the surface.  TankIQTM software can also provide more accurate defect detection and definition, for integrity purposes, as well as allowing a quicker turnaround and returning tanks back into service for Essar.

“The MECTM floor scanner has the advantage of being able to work through tank floor linings, where other floor scanning technology would require the lining to be removed, as well as allowing for the inspection of both stainless and carbon steel tanks, with or without coating.

“This means we can deliver high-quality, detailed inspections but with minimal disruption and outage time for our client.”

Essar’s Inspection and Integrity Manager, John Whitfield, said: “We are pleased to welcome Innospection as a supplier and look forward to working with the team and their new MECTM   floor scanner technology to enhance the efficiency of our tank inspection.”
