SLOFEC Accepted By International Oil Operator

30 April 2014

News Confirmed isolated pits by SLOFEC with verification by Automated Ultrasonic

The Saturation Low Frequency Eddy Current technique is now an accepted and recognised Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) technique for an international Oil & Gas operator.

A field test demonstration of the Saturation Low Frequency Eddy Current technique (SLOFEC)was performed on a 6’ circuit pipeline at a refinery in the United States.  The enormous sensitivity of this technique was proven with the detection of very small diameter and volume isolated internal pits in the pipeline starting with 10% - 20% wall loss.

These defects, which the client was unaware of, were difficult to be detected by manual Ultrasonic. High resolution Automated Ultrasonic had to be used to verify the results which confirmed the SLOFEC findings perfectly. With such enormous sensitivity and especially the detection reliability, the Oil & Gas operator confirmed the high value and need of the SLOFEC technique for them in the identification of pitting defects.

The SLOFEC technique and scanners with such reliable small volumetric pit detection is also known for the inspection application for storage tank floors, process piping, pipelines, risers and offshore structures.
