Subsea Structures Inspection

MEC'-Combi Crawler has been developed to support the inspection and lifetime assessment of subsea structures ranging in size and complexity from small diameter risers through caissons and pipes, to platform legs and flat surfaces like ship hulls.

Designed for deployment from work class Remote Operated Vehicles (ROV) operated from a support vessel, the MEC'-Combi Crawler enables the inspection of subsea structures where access from the topside is not possible.

The MEC'-Combi Crawler system combines the Magnetic Eddy Current fast scanning sensor array system with an Ultrasonic sensor unit to provide valuable data on the internal and external wall thickness. This advanced inspection system identifies localised defects and general wall loss. The fitted camera and light system supports a visualisation of the scan while the position encoder system enables its location on the inspection surface to be determined.

The key features of the MEC'-Combi Crawler are:

  • Capable of crawling up the structures and through splash zone due to the hydraulic powered drive unit
  • Capable of remaining in stable contact with the inspection surface despite the turbulences and waves due to its integral buoyancy and magnetic system
  • Preparation of the inspection surface is less critical due to its electromagnetic technique

  • High defect detection sensitivity
  • High inspection speed of up to 20m/min
  • Ability to detect both external and internal corrosion and defects
  • Ability to crawl up the inspection surface and through the splash zone
  • Ability to inspect at various subsea depths
  • Ability to inspect through surface coating, clad or painting
  • Minimal surface preparation prior to inspection, except for the removal of heavy marine growth

The MEC'-Combi Crawler enables the instantaneous collection of Eddy Current wall thickness data as well as frequent Ultrasonic wall thickness measurements.

Together with Innospection's comprehensive reporting software, accurate and reliable inspection results are generated in real-time. The advanced colour condition mapping report provides analysis of the internal and external defects in term of size, severity of wall loss and locations of defects and other occurrences.
